This collection was inspired by one of the classical era bronze and gilded horses located in the museum in St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice. The larger-than-life size horses, a symbol of Venetian power for many years, have a long history. They were probably destined to crown a triumphal arch in Rome (possibly Nero's). In the 14th century, they were placed on St. Mark's Cathedral. Four hundred years later, Napoleon had them brought to Paris. Eighteen years later they were returned to Venice and have remained there ever since.
Part of the proceeds from this official item goes to the Venice International Foundation to support their work in art restoration projects in the civic museums in Venice.
