Product Description

One of the Post-impressionist greats, this cube is very special in that not only does it contain several important works but an unusually large work of one of his famous Tahitian subjects. is actually showcased up close in several sections. In fact, this work titled ‘Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?’, was painted in Tahiti where Gaugin, in self-imposed exile ended his days painting many of his best-known works. A strong-willed man, fired with artistic passion, Gauguin found 19th Century European middle-class values and morals suffocating. It should not surprise us therefore that he, who once said as his death drew near “I have tried to vindicate the right to dare anything,” should have abandoned his wife and five children at the age of 43 to set his compass for the South Pacific and his sights on artistic liberation. Includes a large size color storycard in english, french, german, spanish, italian, arabic, russian and japanese.
