The discovery in the 1700's of the ruins of Pompeii, the ancient city buried by ashes from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D., revealed an entire urban center preserved from the Roman Imperial era. The exploration of Pompeii stimulated the study and the interest in classical Roman and Greek art and thereby elevated the ideal of absolute beauty and purity of human forms. This collection is made up of faithful reproductions of jewelry actually found in the excavations of Pompeii and also of pieces represented in Roman statues and frescoes found there. All of the jewelry in the collection is sterling silver (.925) or 18k sterling vermeil (.925). Made in Italy |
