Myths and Legends

Myths and Legends, an authorized product for the Vatican Museums, is a sterling silver jewelry collection reproducing souvenir plaster bas reliefs from the era of the "Grand Tour". Italian designer Laura Nocco uses the 3000 year-old lost wax process to handcraft each piece exclusively for MADE IN MUSEUM. Each design is available in sterling silver and gold-plated sterling silver. Complete with packaging and storycard. Made In Italy.

The inspiration for each of these pieces is sculpture housed in the Vatican Museums. Jewelry in this collection is available as a pin/pendant in antiqued sterling silver (.925) and/or antiqued 18kt gold-plated sterling silver. Each article comes in oursignature black box containing a velvet pouch and a storycard with information describing the provenence of the design, the designer of the jewelry, and the production process.
  
 

Canova's Perseus

 

The Neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova was commissioned in 1800 to sculpt this work for the Vatican Museums by Pope Pius VII after Napolean's virtual sack of the museums.

The medusa gives strength and wisdom tio the bearer and is found in many museum collections in Italy. The image was widely used in the Baroque and Neoclassical period as a decorative motif.

Our jewelry design was inspired by the Belvedere Apollo statue which some consider to be the aesthetically pleasing statue in conservation.

The Hunter Meleagros

 

Our jewelry design is reproduced from a statue of Meleagros, a Greek war hero who courageously hunted and killed the dangerous Kalydonian Boar.

The warrior Ajax.

 

During the historic attack on the City of Troy, Ajax is famous for his courageous defense of the great war hero Achilles' dead body. This piece is inspired by a marble bust, one of a series which includes Achilles and other war heroes.

Inspired by the Laocoon statue group in the Octogonal Courtyard. This piece captures the moment when Poseidon, God of the Sea, send two sea serpents to kill Laocoon.

This piece of jewelry was inspired by a 1st century Roman sculpture depicting a chariot drawn by wild horses and driven by Generals of the Roman army.
