  Ionic Capital
The inspiration for these pieces is drawn from an Ionic capital, the intermediary of the three architectural capitals created by the ancient Greeks, making its appearance shortly after the Doric in the 6th century BC. The capital is characterized by an ornamental volute (the rounded motif at each corner of a capital), probably of Egyptian origin, as it resembles the petals of a lotus flower.

Doric Capital
The inspiration for these rings is drawn from a Doric capital, the earliest and most robust of the three Classical capitals (Doric, Ionic, Corinthian) created by the Greeks and brought by them to Southern Italy through the colonies of Magna Graecia (Greater Greece). Their respective styles reflect a progression from robust to slender to ornate that came to be associated with distinct personalities. Doric being the most 'virile' and plain of the three; it personifies the proportions and strength of the male body. Its wide-spreading capital consists of a thick square abacus (the top part that bears the beam) supported by a moulding. The set of incised rings of the moulding disguise the necking or juncture between the column shaft and the capital.
