Hermaphrodite

The image depicted on the front reproduces the "Sleeping Hermaphrodite", housed in the Galleria Borghese in Rome.

The Greek myth of Hermaphrodite tells the story of a nymph, Salmacis, who is helplessly in love with the son of the gods Hermes and Aphrodite. Having attracted him into a lake, upon which she has special powers, she begs the Gods to let her body become one with the youth's. The figure of Hermaphrodite, who became one complete being possessing both male and female attributes, was used by the Greeks to symbolize the physical ideals of both male and female.

The print on the front cover, a reproduction of a 19th century etching, was created using a special photographic process that is then hand finished to guarantee the acurateness of the reproduction.

Part of the proceeds from this sale is invested in the conservation of fine art and cultural heritage.
