Product Description
The Jewels of Light art cube depicts examples of the stunning collection of Stained Glass at the Washington National Cathedral. Representing the work of dozens of artists over nearly 100 years, the Cathedral’s 231 windows range in style from neo-Gothic to modernist abstraction, and constitute one of the finest collections of 20th-century stained glass in the world. Washington National Cathedral was chartered by an act of the United States Congress in 1893. Its foundation stone was laid in 1907, and its final finial was set in place in 1990. Officially named the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, the Cathedral serves a three-fold mission: it is a National House of Prayer for All People, a Great Church for National Purposes, and the Chief Mission Church of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Receiving no financial support from the federal government or any national church, Washington National Cathedral was built and is operated solely with the support of private donations. This stunning and meaningful cube is at the same time a wonderful example of American artisanship and a thoughtful reminder of the spiritual significance of these special works of art. A great gift. Includes illustrated storycard describing each image.
