This collection is inspired by one of the most important artistic movements in Italy, the Baroque, a style that flourished from the beginning of the
'600s through the beginning of the '700s. Though it embraced many of the themes of the Renaissance - harmony of shape and size, formal perfection,
codification of a set of stylistic rules - in many senses it went beyond.
The oversized Roman-era architecture took on new, shapely forms through Borromini's combinations of curves and swirls that adorn popular Roman
Churches. The Baroque style is also evident in the characteristic play of light and shadow in Caravaggio's Paintings and the theatrical drama of the great
Bernini's sculptures.
