Product Description
Petra: Forgotten by the western world until 1812 when J.L.Burckhardt conducted an extensive excavation and was able to correctly identify the city and its history, Petra, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Nabatene, is situated 275 km south of Amman, in today’s Kingdom of Jordan. This colourful cube combines elements of archaeology, history, theology and geology in gorgeous color photos that will stun the viewer. The Nabataeans built themselves temples, homes, sumptuous tombs, markets and theaters mostly excavated in the living rock, buildings which extraordinarily maintained much of their splendor even after the death of their last King and the annexation of the Nabataean Kingdom by the Roman Empire. The majority of the monuments had been covered with plaster and frescoed with paint, all long gone. Meanwhile, the erosion of the sandstone from which they were carved has revealed the marvelous colors that constitute yet another of the particular characteristics of the ancient city of Petra. Storycard in English and Spanish.
