Product Description
This decorative cube with tones dominated by blue and white illustrates a collection of Azulejos ceramics. Azulejos are a typical Portuguese or Spanish painted, tin-glazed, ceramic tilework or object, typically blue and white, hence the name azulejos (in spanish and portuguese, azul means blue) They are ever present in the last five hundred years of Portuguese architectural culture. They were and are used to decorate interiors and exteriors of Churches, Palaces, homes and public spaces such as train stations and can be found on walls, floors, ceilings and in the form of decorative objects also for ritual use in the catholic church. Made of ceramic, azulejos were often a decorative material of choice due to their functional capacity as an element of temperature control in private homes. Azulejos also serve historians in their capacity to document important historical, cultural and religious events in their pictorial aspect. A wonderful gift for collectors of china, those interested in decorative arts in general or curious about european and portuguese history. Illustrated storycard describing each image in English and French.
